This is Teddy,
Teddy came in to us as his owner became too unwell to look after him and he really struggled with the cattery environment so has been in foster care to help him regain his confidence.
Teddy is a very sensitive boy who was scared of his own shadow when he arrived in his foster home, but with lots of TLC, he is learning to overcome his scaredy instincts.
Teddy is still very unsure about humans but is learning from other cats in the foster home that humans are ‘OK’. He absolutely loves other cats and comes out of his shell as soon as they’re near, so Teddy needs to live with at least one established friendly cat to continue his confidence building. He also likes dogs, but can get a bit scared when they act boisterously.
Teddy is not a lap cat at the moment and is much happier giving affection on his own terms, although with more encouragement we think he will become more interested in humans. When he feels he’s in a safe space he loves a stroke but isn’t sure about humans when he’s ‘out and about’.
Teddy can be quite vocal about not liking some situations, but after a few shouts (hisses) he will soon be eating (literally) from your hand. You will know when he trusts you because he has the loudest purr in the world, which he struggles to contain when he’s happy.
Teddy loves to play, whether it be with toys or cats, so will need an owner with plenty of time to run off his energy. Teddy hasn’t learnt to relax yet, so he is either sleeping or playing and when he plays, it’s like his life depends on it. He has also gained a lot of trust in humans through play, so will be an essential part of his routine.
Teddy is fastidious about his litter tray and will require several around his new home before he is able to go outside. He will need to be kept in for at least 8 weeks as it takes him so long to develop a relationship with humans.
As he has never lived with children and he can be reactive in some stressful situations, we think he’s best suited to a house with either adults only or children over the age of 14.
Teddy is a complicated little character but with a firm yet gentle hand, we think he’ll make a wonderful addition to a cat lovers home.
